Robert Ivy is the CEO of the Architect Institute of America. The Architects Institute of America is a professional organization that caters to the professional needs of American Architects. It provides them with opportunities to learn about innovation in the business, network and also find career advancement options.
Robert Ivy this year received the Noel Polk Lifetime Achievement Award which honors artists from or connected to Mississippi who has done a lot during their life in artistic expression. According to a press release, it was the first time an architect had received the award.
Other recipients of the award over the years include Morgan Freeman who received the award in 2007, Leontyne Price, the singer who received the award in the year 2000 as well as a writer like Eudora Welty and Shelby Foote. Eudora was the 2001 recipient of the award while Shelby Foote was honored with the Polk Award in 2004. Walter Anderson who received the award in 1989 was an artist.

Speaking about the award the President of Architects Institute of America Carl Elefante said that the award was a great achievement for Robert who had worked as an author, an architect and an editor. He felt that having worked as the CEO of the American Institute of Architects Robert Ivy is well qualified to represent the profession in the list of Polk Award recipients. Since taking his position at the American Institute of Architects numbers have increased and are currently at an all-time high.
The institution has been in existence for the last 160 years which makes this a major achievement. Robert Ivy has been the recipient of many other awards including a National Magazine award when he worked a the Architectural Record. He was also named Master Architect by Alpha Rho Chi which is a nationwide architecture fraternity. The title “Master Architect” a title given to architects like R. Buckminster Fuller as well as Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
